Although it is not required, family members are more than welcome to join. In fact, besides playing on the field, parents can enjoy all events included in the package (stadium tours, guided city tours, etc.). There are many parents that attend the experience as the trip creates incredible memories that strengthen the bond with their kids.
All training sessions lat 90 minutes and are conducted by highly qualified Spanish coaches at the academies of Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid, Valencia CF, and Barcelona FC. During the week, players will work on different aspects to give them a well-rounded understanding of the methodology, philosophy, and style of play of these clubs and Spanish soccer in general.
Training sessions will take place at the same facilities where the academy teams of these clubs train daily (Ciudad Real Madrid, Ciutat Joan Gamper, etc.).
Friendly games are all played against Spanish opposition in top quality fields, usually artificial turf (3G). The format of the games is usually 2 halves of 30-minutes each to avoid players getting exhausted from an intense week of training, games, and activities. The games will be 9v9 or 11v11 depending on the age group.
Yes, full board can be added to your tour for an extra $180. These take place at the hotel or equivalent. We especially recommend players traveling alone to add this to their tour. You will be able to add full board to your package later.
Yes. Each player or family is responsible to book their own flight. We will later ask for your flight information so we can arrange transfer from the airport to the hotel on the first day of the tour and vice-versa on the last day. Transfers will only be provided from Madrid Barajas International Airport (MAD) on Saturday 03/14/2020, and Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat Airport (BCN) on Sunday 03/22/2020. We also recommend your flight to land in Madrid early or mid-morning to avoid missing any activities on the first day, such as a La Liga game.
A couple months before the tour, we will provide all families with the specific information of a flight that will be boarded by GSI staff. This flight will most likely be JFK-MAD and BCN-JFK. Families will then be able to purchase a ticket for the same flight so we will be able to welcome the kids at JFK and return them back there.
Now, to get to JFK, families will have to decide if the kid travels alone or accompanied. The 2nd option is preferred but you can consider the following when deciding:
Airlines generally consider children between the ages of 5 and 14 who travel without a parent or guardian to be “unaccompanied minors.” For kids between 15 and 17, unaccompanied minor service is typically optional.
Lastly, we will also ask for all this information later on so we are able to track the flights and whereabout of players traveling alone.
The cost of your flight tickets will depend on a lot of factors (departure airport, airline, etc.). As of October 2019, a round trip and direct flight JFK-MAD and BCN-JFK is around $500. Our experience is that from JFK you can usually find flights for $400-$1,000.
Players, and family members if they join, are all staying at 4-star hotels conveniently located and with great amenities (gym, pool, sauna, restaurants, bars, etc.). Rooms are distributed according to the following:
- Twin room (2 beds): 1 player and 1 family member. Or 2 players traveling without family members.
- Triple room (3 beds): 1 players and 2 family members, or 2 players and 1 family member.
- 2 twin rooms: families of 4 members.
In that case, your son is roomed with another player or a the designated guardian/family.
Yes. Later we will ask for your flight information as well as the opportunity to book extra night either before or after the tour. This will help by being able to stay in the same room without the need to check out and back in. In this case, however, we will not be able to provide transportation from the airport to the hotel or vice-versa.
Travel insurance is not required but advisable. www.travelinsurance.com is a good place to search and compare many different policies.
Families and players should have their own valid health insurance. We recommend you first check with your policy holder to see if they provide coverage in the United Kingdom.
No, it is not required. However, we will adhere to the refund and cancellation policy. You can also cover your trip with RegSaver by going to https://www.registrationsaver.com/global-sports/. Once there, select “Tournament, Race, Camp or Single Event”.
GSI provides all players with a travel and a training uniform. The travel uniform includes a sweatshirt and a raincoat that needs to be worn while traveling to training, friendlies, or activities. The training uniform includes long socks, shorts, and jersey, that will be worn during training and friendlies.
Players that attend without families members will be supervised 24-hours a day. All our staff have passed background checks and received safeguarding training.
All packages include half board, which is breakfast plus lunch or dinner, depending on the day. Breakfast will always take place at the hotel while lunch can take place at the hotel, the training facilities, or others.
Comfortable and high quality buses will be available for transportation for all activities included in the itinerary. Also, this will be provided from landing until departure. That means we will be waiting for you at the arrival airport to transfer you to the hotel. The opposite will take place for departure.
